Welcome Letter from Ms. Melton

Hello!  It is very awkward to try to write about oneself, but I will try.

My name is Diana Melton.  I have been a teacher at Clinton for the last 20 years.  Thirteen of those years have been at Southwest.  I have also taught Spanish at the Middle School and HIgh School.

I received my degree from Southwestern in 1986 with the intention of teaching English at the high school level.  My student teaching experience quickly changed my mind.  I did many different jobs between 1986 to 1999.  In 1997 I went back to school parttime and changed my degree to elementary education.  I think that was the best decision I ever made. I enjoy teaching at this level.  Everyday is a new experience.

I am a single mother of six children.  I am the biological mother of one and a mother to my 5 nieces and nephews whom I have been raising for the last 14 years.  I love all of my children; they are my life. My daughter is an RN at Integris Hospital in Oklahoma City.   My oldest son, Jose, graduated from CPS two years ago and is a welder.  Austin is a CHS graduate. Erasmo "Kiki" is in the 11th grade, Americus is in the 10th grade, and Chloe is in the 8th grade.  It is fun getting ready for school in the morning and even more fun being on time.  We have made it work for many years and will continue to do so.  I've got this down!

I want to reassure everyone that your children are safe with me.  I will treat them as if they were my own.  I expect the best from them-socially and academically.  Sometimes it may seem as if I am pushing too hard, but that is only because I expect the best from them.

Please feel free to contact me anytime you need to.  The school phone number is 323-1290. You can also e-mail me at:     diana.melton@clintonokschools.org.

Thank you for letting me a part of your childrens' lives.
